Documentation notes
Corrections and additions to the Advanced Server documentation set are included in
the following sections:
For the latest documentation updates available, see the SCO Advanced File and
Print Server web site at
http://www.sco.com/products/afps/doc.html
Terminology
Throughout the SCO Advanced File and Print Server documentation, the terms
"Advanced Server" and "Advanced Server for UNIX Systems" are synonymous with
"SCO Advanced File and Print Server".
Using online documentation
All SCO Advanced File and Print Server documentation is available online
and readable using a Web browser such as
Netscape
Navigator
.
Locating Advanced Server documentation
The Advanced Server books are integrated in to the
SCOhelp framework and can be located by navigating to the Networking or
DOS and Windows topic sections. The SCOhelp server provides access to
the SCOhelp documentation from anywhere on the network.
Navigating online documentation
Advanced Server online documentation is displayed in side-by-side frames in
the browser window. The left-hand frame displays the table of contents and the
right-hand frame displays the body of the document being viewed. Clicking on
a heading in the table of contents cause the browser to display the relevant
page in the right-hand frame. You can then navigate through the text using the
scroll bar or hypertext links highlighted in the document.
The SCOhelp environment introduces additional frames, containing
navigation buttons, at the base of the table of contents and body frames. The
SCO Advanced Server Administration Guide, Concepts and Planning
Guide and API Reference have not been enhanced to allow for the
use of the SCOhelp navigation buttons. It is recommended that, when viewing
these documents from within SCOhelp, you do not use the Scohelp navigation
buttons but instead use the icons displayed at the end of each page. Clicking
on these icons enables navigation to next page, previous page, top of page,
index and home.
Client documentation
The SCO Advanced Server Administration Guide refers to documentation
for Microsoft client software. This documentation is available only in
PostScript (.ps) and Adobe PDF (.pdf) format in the info/afps directory
on the Optional Services CD-ROM. PostScript files can be printed by submitting
each file directly to a PostScript printer. Adobe PDF files can be viewed and
printed using the Adobe Acrobat Reader which can be downloaded from
http://www.adobe.com.
Manual pages
The Advanced Server manual pages are included in Manual Pages sections (1) -
Unrestricted commands and (3) - Library routines. When viewed
directly, using either the SCOhelp browser or the man command, the manual
pages appear normal. But, if the Advanced Server manual pages are viewed as the
result of a SCOhelp search operation, the display is corrupted by erroneous
characters.
Corrections to Administration Guide
Upgrading
Chapter 2, "Upgrading", describes how to upgrade an existing Advanced Server
3.5x or LAN Manager for Unix Systems server to Advanced Server 4.0. Whilst
other software vendors have provided such products for UnixWare, SCO has
not previously provided any of these products for the UnixWare platform. The
upgrade capability of the installation software remains intact but SCO cannot
guarantee that it will function correctly when upgrading any third party
products.
Registry parameters
The following registry parameters have had their default values changed from
those given in Appendix A, "Advanced Server Registry":
- MixedCaseSupport
-
the default value has been changed from 0 to 1 so that mixed case file name
support is enabled
- CreateUnixUser
-
the default value has been changed from 0 to 1 so that a similarly named UNIX
user account is created when an Advanced Server account is created
Lanman.ini parameters
The following Lanman.ini parameters have had their default values changed from
those given in Appendix B, "Lanman.ini File":
- lmxmsgfile
-
this parameter is now obsolete
- netmsgwait
-
the default value has been reduced from 300 to 30
Corrections to Concepts and Planning Guide
No sysadm utility
Chapter 6, "Setting Up Print Servers" makes reference to the sysadm
utility in the section titled "Configuring a UNIX System Printer". In
UnixWare 7, this utility has been superceded by scoadmin.
Corrections to API Reference
Unsupported APIs
Chapter 3, "Unsupported APIs", begins with the sentence: "The following table
lists API functions that are no longer not supported". This should read: "The
following table lists API functions that are no longer supported".
